I’m way over weight and I really want to lose weight. But, i’m only 12. How can I?
Exercise, exercise, exercise. At your age, you don’t need to really worry about strength training or any of that, just get outside and run around, take up a sport, anything to keep you moving. Lay off the junk foods and keep up a healthy diet with plenty of the essentials: Vegetables, milk, whole grains, fish, ect. You’ll be back at a healthy weight before you know it.

A 12-year-old is still growing; you can’t just go on any old diet or stop eating. You need to get to a doctor who will assess your needs and determine what kind of restrictions must be in place so that your normal growing is not stunted by altered diet. Don’t just follow some fad diet you heard about. Chances are, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. It is unsafe to lose too much weight too fast, especially for someone at puberty age whose body chemisty must not be altered in order to mature properly. So ask your parent or guardian to make you an appointment and go from there.

At this age, you shouldn’t even be worrying about weight. However, you can get active and start playing sports. Join a school team.

Eat less. Think about calories like money. Each day you get an allowance. You’re allowed to "spend" 1400 calories a day, and you buy food and drinks with it. Get smart by reading the labels of the food you eat. A can of soda has about 200 calories. Do you want to spend your 200 calories on a soda, or save them for something else? You can drink a diet soda or water and not feel deprived of anything, then you have those 200 calories to spend on something really good like some potato chips. When you start thinking of calories as money, and you start thinking that you only want to spend them on the things you want the most, it’ll be easy to take in less calories. Remember, though, you didn’t put your weight on in one day, and you won’t lose it in one day either.
P.S. You can earn more of an allowance by doing more exercise like a fast paced walk, climbing up and down stairs, something that will make your heart go faster for about 30 minutes. That will earn you an extra 200 calories that day. You can also save them like a bank account. Spend only 1300 calories a day for six days, and on the seventh day you have saved 600 calories that you can spend any way you like, or you can save them for later.

You will need the help of whoever takes care of you to eat a more healthy way. You should also not be allowed to just be on the internet without any supervision because there are questions on here that are not for children. I fear you are on your own too much and allowed to just do and eat what you want. If that is the case, you need to cut out all sugary snacks from your diet and substitute lowfat and low sugar snacks. Drink more water and stay away from sugary sodas too.
